Before reading this article, I did not think about how music could be applied to Asian American studies. I always thought about that politics and the news dominated the field of this class. This article emphasized how important it is to be represented not only in politics, but also in the music. The idea of being identified in the field of hip hop gives Filipinos a sense of belonging. The start of anything always begins with being accepted and recognized.
One section of the article that I found interesting was when the author mentions the idea of cultural "free for all." This idea applies to the concept that it is similar to a box of Tic Tacs. It is a refreshment that should be shared.
