With the rise of the internet, it provides many new possibilities to occur. It allows more
commercialism, spreading of ideas, and even the possibility to create a community, as well as a sub
communities. People are able to find similar people and gather together over the web to knit together
a community. The community is created on a similar topic that everyone shares and this goes true
for Asian american immigrants who are LGBT. They find one another through the web and this can
be both dangerous and safe because their identity is somewhat protected from the discrimination of
being LGBT. The internet provides a LGBT a safe haven to come together creating an online LGBT
community.
Kelly was a high school graduate who had dreams of going for higher education and Tony was a
her boyfriend who use to be affiliated with gang activity. Kelly became pregnant before Tony and her
were married and according to Mien culture. Kelly was to marry Tony which took her by surprise
when she received a silver bracelet one day coming home. After giving birth to her baby, Kelly's
mom tried to give her ginger tea since it was tradition to do so, however Kelly refused it showing
resistance to the culture. After a little while, Kelly did not want having a baby to stop her from
attending college so she starts her education again. She does not regret having the baby, but she does
regret the timing of it. Tony on the other hand had no education and doesn't understand why Kelly
wants to go to school again. He just wants her to stay home and be a mother, but Kelly attends
college while trying to balance raising her baby.
