In the article. “Virtual Webs of Real People” by Sandip Roy, the author first addresses the idea of search engine powerfulness. Hence, he gave out an example where it shows almost seven million searches of “gay” on search engine on web. However, the number is far less in Asia. In Asia, it only appears merely 346 thousand matches, which are significantly lower than elsewhere. Therefore, the issue of internet on the topic of homosexuality is in fact lacking in Asia. Yet, in the article, the author also suggests that many people will be using web engines abroad that they can receive information globally as well. The internet was an interesting introduction to Asian world. I still remembered that growing up in Shanghai, 15 years ago, the internet was just first started in China. Before than, there was very little information since the government would purposely block outside news from pouring into China. Now, similarly, Chinese government still blocks many sources and search engines such as Google, Youtube, and Facebook. Many have been blocked to view. Therefore, this creates a imagery to this topic I think.
