Mobile Cultures and This Kelly Chick

The rise of the internet age has made culture infinitely more complex. In the past, one's culture was mostly determined based off of where they happened to be most of the time. If they disagreed of didn't fit in for one reason or another (read: sexual orientation) they would likely just keep that bottled away and private, as moving to a new area would be too much for too little. The beauty of the internet is that members of more niche identity traits and beliefs that don't correspond to living in the same area can form cultures and communities online. One major benefit of this is that we can see a much more accurate spectrum of humanity than ever before, because people feel more comfortable being honest when they know their are others out their like them that they can relate to. This freedom of expression increases the unity and happiness in this country, giving everyone a metaphorical home on the internet.
Kelly made a bunch of questionable decisions - questionable by American standards, let alone her native Asian parent's standards. By dating a former gang member and getting pregnant young, she received a lot of criticism and did not believe that she would be able to continue to pursue college. Eventually she participates in small acts of rebellion, such as refusing her mother's tea, which lead to a larger act of rebellion, choosing to go to school and raise her kid. That is the beauty of free will. She can be herself and also participate in her home culture.
