Gendered Limits & Kelley Loves Tony

In the article, sports are used to demonstrated male how males are masculine. When we talk about males, we usually associate and talk about cars, sports, and hardware. It is a male dominated field. On the other hand, females are associated with makeup, perfume, and heels. The challenge to break the social norms and associations are lines that finer now in the 21st century, however these lines are not transparent or has disappeared. Women are highly sexualized even today in the media. For example, car commercials or even for an ad for a burger shows women beings sexualized. Women are looked down upon for it, but men, on the other hand, are praised for their sex appeal. Following along these lines, many people ask each other "What is your body count?" Both men and women lies about these numbers. Women often lower the number, while men increase the number. However, if the number for men are higher - who are these men sleeping with? Studies show that the "body count" for both men and women are pretty equal and particularly higher for a certain gender. Body counts and gender roles should be equal, as the studies show.

In the second part of Kelley Loves Tony, the storyline starts to thicken. Kelley is not able to go to college because she is struggling to raise one of her kids and is now pregnant with another child. the pregnancy was not accepted at first and Tony adds to the fire by saying that she talked about wanted a child soon. However, does soon mean in the next couple of months? Kelley expressed anger and devastation as she found out she was going to have another child. As they continue to struggle with their day to day lives, it makes me think about how it relates to many immigrant first and second generation households. Many are struggling to live out the American Dream, but still holding many nuclear Southeast Asian family customs. Does the American Dream even exist? From my family's experience, coming to America did give them the luxury of a surplus of food and better education. But, in the process, they were stripped of their traditional customs and and such that they are no longer living the "dream." The dream in Kelley could be lost because of her struggles, but I really hope that things turn around for this couple in the long run.
