Kelly Loves Tony related to Rodriguez's Gendered Limits

Watching more of Kelly Loves Tony, I find that my previous assumptions were not so accurate. I claimed that Tony was understanding of what Kelly wanted and was letting her pursue her education, but actually it was more of a situation which Tony did not believe in what she was striving for but did not care about her enough to try to learn about her goals. Tony was very fixated on his definition in gender roles, where the woman should just follow the husband and help his family out in all areas, having very little regard for how she felt. This relates to Rodriguez's say on how the current dominant cultures have many displays in which implies, as he says "hegemonic logic of heterosexuality and masculinity." In the case of Tony, he is so stuck with his definition of male and female roles, where the male is the dominant one and the female is the compliant and obedient one in relationships. Rodriguez also emphasizes that it is important how we display ourselves as Asian Americans, and that many of the stereotypes of Asian american women is due to the fact of how they are used in the popular culture.
