Roy - Virtual Webs of Real People

I believe what relates Roy's article and the film Kelly Loves Tony is how people can resist against the role that is expected of them when others try to enforce it on them. In the film, Kelly and Tony struggle with raising a child, and at this point what is expected of them is to just settle down and take care of their family. However, Kelly continues to pursue education and college, which is different than what is expected of her. Tony on the other hand unfortunately is not the same, and just sticks with his job to raise money for his family. He does not try to enforce those expectations onto Kelly though, which shows he is still different than other husbands who try to take control. In Roy's article, Roy talks how the internet allows for new possibilities and opportunities. Many groups start forming through the internet, creating spaces for others who can't be as open about how they feel. The internet allows for those who live in circumstances which are not optimal to help themselves and explore through the use of internet, where they can find others who feel the same. In both, we see the importance of resistance and allowing those to have freedom in what they want to do, rather than restrict them and enforce rules upon them.
