Betrayal, Class Fantasies, and the Filipino Nation in Daly City

In high-school, I considered my second home to be Daly City/Colma Area because I would stay with family friends during the summer. I was definitely aware of the high concentration of Filipino groups because I constants spoke with some while shopping, dining, and sporting. My closest friends in this area were Mexican Americans and African Americans and they consistently made remarks of how this place is "Little Philippines".

Personally, I think it is great for these groups to establish an area where they feel comfortable and at home in a foreign land. Fortunately, there were two waves high migration of Filipinos entering the U.S., therefore, they were able to settle more with Americanism and social classes, compared to Vietnamese, Thai, Laos, Hmong, and Cambodians.

Considering their early pretense, they do have an upper hand in the Southeast Asian conformity cycle. However, Vergara tells us that comes with a price. His analysis included the relationship between Filipino American and Filipinos from the Motherland. Surprisingly there is a negative stigma to those who move to the U.S.; they are considered to be traitors to their identity. They books he analyzes almost sets an angry tone to those "deserters". It has become a debate between money and nationalism. Thus, we can just imagine how Filipino Americans may be seen through the eyes of Native Filipinos.
