For April 18 Blog Betrayal, Class Fantasy, And Filipinos Nation in Daly City
Filipino community has grown significantly in Daly City, California. They even called Daly City “Little Manila”. The article focuses on discussing the post01965 Filipino immigrants moving to Daly city based on their cultural and economic prospective in America. These people are often underemployed with limited skills. According to Glicerio Sicat, president of Interpacific Capital Philippines, Filipino immigrants are silent heroes, in which their purpose is to service the country. Nationalism often links to ethnicity and place, whereas some may be more concerning with “money” causing “binary opposition between money and nation”, as mentioned in the article.  There’s always a debate on staying versus leaving amongst Filipino groups living in United States and they are on discussion between “money” or “nationalism”. Indeed, many Filipino workers seek oversea opportunity to support their family and kids. To be “maidless” in America is hard to keep up with the upper class. Therefore, many Filipino workers are “silent heroes”. Many Filipinos are afraid of people judging them having Filipino accent, resulting a loss of their language, Tagalog. Even though median household income for Filipino is higher than national average, it can be misleading due to there are many persons per Filipino household.
