Betrayal, Class Fantasy, and Filipino Nation in Daly City

After reading this article by Vergara, I found that his main focuses are how Filipinos are emigrating from the Philippines due to the many issues within the lower and middle classes. As a result, many of the Filipinos believe that those who are emigrating are betraying their country, because they think they are turning their back to them. Nationalism is strong within the Philippines and that results in negative views on those who leave. They believe that the many Filipinos who leave are in search or wealth or pursue their own fantasy. However, I believe that this is not the case all the time because there are those who were forced into leaving, in search of a better home. I believe this because my elders and parents had to do the same thing when leaving Vietnam to immigrate into the United States.
