Laotian Daughters and the In-Class Film For April 25th
In many ways Laotian Women are seen as “minorities” in United States, and many of them are entitled as Refugees and Single moms. They work for low-wage jobs and are often under-represented. The author asserts many social medias blame minorities having wide-range social problems, including poverty, school failure, drug… In the chevron accident, many residents could not even understand English resulting a failure to receive warning regarding leakage. Laotian group began organizing translation group to prevent such event from happening. The emergency warning event puts out the tension between politics and coalitional politics. In 1998, California passed the law to withdrawal bilingual system in education. This caused a tension of anti-immigrants’ movement, as many immigrants’ children cannot receive bilingual education. In the in-class film, many Cambodian young generations struggle in their daily lives with working at minimum wage jobs to support their hobbies. Many of their families came to United Sates to seek for a better future for their children. Some of their children, however, ended up in violence and being dropped out of school. There are other types of the kids who work hard in school and live under their American Dream.
