Indo-chic and Arab Islam and the dogmas of the west

In the reading, it covers the idea of other countries by the western culture. The idea that the east is oriental because its different and strange compared to the western customs. This is an idea created by western culture in order to make the eastern culture as different and exotic as possible, making it very different from western culture. To this day, the western culture still sees the eastern culture as something exotic and fun. This is shown through people wearing eastern style clothing or jewelry, because its cool and trendy. This is cultural appropriation, which has had a massive spike as of lately due to the new "festival wear" which is actually south east Asian traditional wear with an Americanized spin on it.  This goes from henna to bindi, to mandalas, and traditional prints and styles of clothing. while they may look cute or Instagram material, People in the western culture normally pay no mind to the traditions or reason for wearing these items. They choose to wear they because its trendy and cool. Once it becomes not trendy or uncool, they will move on to something new and just get rid of the other items they bought.  Many do not see the issue with cultural appropriation, saying that its just a style and that its not really appropriating since everyone should have access to things, the example that comes to mind is white girls wearing weaves, some people say weaves are for everybody and its not appropriation for that reason. Cultural Appropriations is offensive because you take the culture, use it for your purpose, not understanding the culture, and then throw it away disrespecting the culture.
