Capitalist Orientalism & ARABS, ISLAM For May 9th
According
to the Article “Late Capitalist Orientalism by Sunaina Maira”, there are a deep
conception of the “Oriental culture”, which mostly consists of belly dancing or
image of “non-liberated” Muslim women. The Indo-Chic images a new age of “Orientalism”
by having “beauty practice, bridal shower, or sex toy.” Also the image of
Indo-Chic orientalism was even more exemplified with the single “Frozen” This
lavishly iconized the fashion spreading across during the late 1990s. Also
asserted in the article, the word, “Orient” is ling associated with art and aesthetic
values in American Culture. Therefore marketing “indo-chic” orientalism makes
it naturally appealing to many people by these “mysterious” “lavish”
impressions. In the article, “Arabs, Islam and Dogmas of the West”, Orientalism
is interpreted as from “Arab, Indian, Chinese, and Japanese” civilizations. However,
orientalism also faces the influences of imperialism and was somewhat experiencing
in numerous stereotypes.
