Assimilation- Shishir Kurup
The author provides several stories of Asian American immigrants who have moved to The United States and are assimilating to the American culture. One story in particular provides a view of what immigrants think of Americans, basically stating that we are not as hygienic. The article also mentions transnationalism and globalization and example that they give is how the europeans are colonizing their countries with more fast food chain restaurants, etc.
Heterogeneity, Hybridity, and Multiplicity- Lisa Lowe
Lowe states that culture depends on your position and where you come from. If you are raised in a family where your parents are firm believers in maintaining the culture they were brought up in then you will ultimately be more adjusted to the culture compared to someone who did not believe in teaching their children their native language, etc.
