Immigrant Acts & Assimilation

Both texts shows how immigrants negotiate their identity to both assimilate and not assimilate into the country that they've moved to. They want to fit in the new society that they now live in, but they also don't want to lose their identity and their culture. I am a first generation immigrant from Thailand, so I know this feeling personally. It feels like being stuck in limbo, not completely Thai, yet not completely American. Something that I've always be aware of is my way of speaking. My native language is Thai, but the language slips away from me more and more, feeling more American every time I speak it. English, though is my main language, does not feel like it sometimes. I sometimes have a hard time thinking of a word in English, while a Thai word runs through my head at the same time. I feel like I am stuck between languages, not completely one or the other. I think that is how many immigrants feel, being stuck between two worlds
