Indo-Chic Late Capitalist Orientalism and Imperialist Culture & Arabs, Islams, and Dogmas of the West

The first article, Indo Chic Late Capitalist Orientalism and Imperialist Culture, describes how traditional practices, like clothing and art forms from Asia are being brought to the USA and how people are disrespecting, in a way, the traditional cultural meanings of these practices. An example from the article is henna, and how it has a meaning in Indian culture, but when it is brought to the US, a man asked for a Tweety bird henna on his shoulder, which is obviously not what the art form is used for, and the artist was offended. Many vendors are also profiting off of these practices, and making much more than what women in India make for this labor. However, on the other hand, many people also support this movement because it expands the culture and second generation children learn more about their own cultures, because many have never been back to their homeland before. It also shows more people the diversity of the world and how many cultures have different ways of dressing or making art. The second article talks about the different Oriental cultures and how their religion has not been override by Christianity.
