Reading Maira's article, I realized that many types of cultures could of emerged due to global capitalist production, immigration trends, and the contradictions  of cultural leadership. Ethnic authenticity and nationality. In their own ways, any culture can have their own movement for national identity. Looking at Orientalism and what Said says about it, we can easily see how can relate to today. He talks about how much of the racial stereotypes come not from the lower class  but rather the upper class. In this sense, I think that it is because of how deeply rooted racism in this country's history, it is difficult to completely wipe it. If those who's opinions is of higher status than ours, how can we fight against it.
