What I believe this article is looking at is how third world countries such as Vietnam is greatly affected by other larger countries, and in this case, the United States. Having a history of conflict, Vietnam had a hard time developing itself as a country, getting further behind than others. He talks about Walter Benjamin speaks of the world as a global village. I believe this is the case because how larger and more popular sorts of things are being spread and influencing the smaller and more undeveloped areas, all trying to become one global thing. Bui talks about how Vietnam takes the show American Idol and develop their own type of Vietnam Idol. Absorbing this western type of culture, Bui believes there is a "digital divide" between technoculture over indigenous cultural practices. I agree with this because some people idolize other cultures too much that they forget their own culture and as a result, it makes it more difficult for the Vietnamese to spread their own culture.
