DJing is a cultural practice among African Americans but now it has made its way into the Filipino
lifestyle. Although DJing is first brought into existence by African Americans, Filipino DJs are
making claims as to why DJing is part of who they are as a group all the while respecting what DJing
is and its origins. Most Filipino DJ argue that DJing is now part of the Filipino culture and practices
because they grew up with it. It makes them who they are as a race, as a group. They also respect
DJing for what it is and that it isn't for the money but for the music. Hip-hop may have been derived
from one particular race, but it is something for all people and that throughout time Hip-hop has
been diluted so that many cultures can participate in it. So DJing is something that can be practiced
for all race and cultures, but its "roots" and "origins" should at least be respected.
