Section Syllabus
ASA 4: Asian American Cultural Studies
Section 1: Tuesday 4:10pm - 5:00pm  
Section 4: Thursday 6:10pm - 7:00pm

Office Hours: Thursday 2:00pm - 4:00pm in Hart Hall 3111

Section Outcome:
To critically engage with topics covered throughout the course and to approach questions that arise in lectures and readings.

Attendance:
Your attendance is crucial to your class participation grade. More than 4 unexcused absences may result in an F in section. You must notify me if you cannot attend section due to an emergency. If you are late, make sure to come see me after class so that I do not mark you as being absent.

Grading:
Quizzes (5%)
Class participation (15%)
Daily Blog (15%)
Presentation (10%)
Midterm (20%)                                May 4th
Final Video Project (35%)              June 8th              

Participation:
You must bring discussion questions every week on a 3x10 notecard and be prepared to actively participate in class. This could be through sharing of ideas, using examples or simply asking a question. I would also like the class as a whole to create an open environment and be respectful to one another.

Essays:
You are required to write one completed essay (along with a draft) in this course and unless stated otherwise they should be typed, stapled, double spaced in 12-point Times New Roman font with 1 inch margins. We will be using MLA citation style for this course.The MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, 7th edition provides guidelines for this citation style. You can also use the online resource: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/01/ (the Owl at Purdue).

Do Not Plagiarize:
Representing another students work as your own or using other resources and not properly citing them is defined as plagiarism. So don’t do it!

This course is designed to force you to ask big questions and hopefully sharpen your critical thinking skills. With that being said, there may be elements of this class that
