Laotian Daughters

When it comes to the daughters gender specific roles and cultural roles tend to be put on them more

than the sons. They are to tend the house, take care of their siblings, and all the while maintain

school work. Restriction are also placed upon who they can and cannot date. Parents will usually

want their daughters to date someone of the same race otherwise they are looked down upon.

Daughters are also looked down upon if they rebel against the bubble that their parents have defined

for them and are seen as traitors to their families and culture. Parents also see to it that by marrying

someone from the same cultural identity then their culture is able to be passed onto the next

generation. These women are also living in a place where certain cultural ideas may not align with

the ones their parents have in mind. They live a life of conflicting cultures. Daughters are pressured

by their families to do well as well as by the outside world where they live.
