I thought Roy's article was interesting in the showing how South Asians are facing oppressive forces from both inside and outside their community. This intersectionality of gender and race shows how the issue of queer South Asians needs to be approached by criticizing the gendered and racial forces that are oppressing them. However, I do have a slight criticism of the article. It mentions the existence of homosexuality across history. I think that a better term for this would be same-sex relationships due to the fact that the definition of homosexuality Roy uses does not correspond to that era. "Same-sex relationship" would be more accurate in describing the relationships and acts these men were doing at that time, I think.
The act of Kelly attending college while being a mother is important in dispelling the negative connotations surrounding teen pregnancy. I did find Tony's consistent asking of the importance of school to Kelly annoying. I understand that he is not a 'school person' but I think that if he loved Kelly that he would be supporting her in whatever decision she decides to make and be critical when there's a need to be. However, I did find Kelly not knowing that she was going to be engaged to Tony to be slightly disturbing. This exemplifies the value of Mien women as individuals with no voice in making decisions.
