The Art of Necessity by John Jordan talks about the culture of art. It describes how many protests and political events are built around artistic expressions in order to gain people's attention and show people's views and help prove a point. Art is a part of everyday life and can be seen in everything.
In Shopping for Pleasure by John Fiske, the author talks about shopping is seen as a gendered activity. People perceive it as only an activity that women enjoy, and its seen as a feminine thing to do. These readings relate to what we were learning in class before, because it show the divide between the two genders. For example, in The Merchants of Cool video, its talks about the Midriff for women where they are overly sexualized. The reading on automobile culture also show how women need to be a certain way, for men. This article talks about how shopping is kind of like a way for women to show that they can also be in charge and spend money. However, it still shows a gender divide because shopping is seen as something only a woman does.
