Aoki & Deporting Cambodian Refugees

Both the documentary and the reading supports Asian involvement in activism. I think that Asian activism is not very well known because Asian Americans are not a significant part of the population and because of the division between ethnicity, religion, and language. As a result, Asian activism rarely makes national headlines. however, Asian activism has been effective primarily in west coast cities, where Asian Americans are concentrated. The English language has been an important tool, acting as a lingua franca for Asian Americans across ethnicities to communicate and mobilize. Many victories have been won for Asian Americans such as citizenship, equal rights, and Asian American studies at universities.

Although there are still issues facing Asian Americans, there are not many Asian Americans fighting to solve the issues. In addition to that, many Asian Americans believe that the US is a post racial society, ignoring issues facing Asian Americans. Because there are no extremely pressing issues facing Asian Americans, they want to forget that there are issues at all. However, I have increasingly seen more Asian Americans participating more in activism, which is a positive change.
